A Two Star Program

Reaching for 3 Stars

Oklahoma has  been rated the number one state in the nation for quality standards. The Department of Defense and Washington DC were ranked higher than Oklahoma, but the first state in the rankings was Oklahoma.

Much of this was due to the Star rating system. The system ranges from 1 star to 3 stars. One star programs meet the bare minimum standards required by DHS licensing.  One and one half star  facilities are working towards a Two Star ranking and meet higher standards. A facility may only be ranked one and one half stars for a short amount of time.

Two Star programs meet  higher standards such as  room arrangement, learning centers, staff education and training , parent communication and  involvement, lesson planning, health and safety, program goals, and more.

Children’s Corner has met and maintained a Two Star status for over seven years. It has been a goal for the facility to obtain the Three Star status for some time. However, limited “woman” power has prevented much progress towards that goal. That is, until now. Now, there is a new plan about to go into motion.

Mrs. Tammy Richard to assume more respoNsibilities

Beginning this coming fall, Mrs. Tammy will be leaving the classroom at Children’s Corner to assume more Assistant Director responsibilities. Tammy has served Children’s Corner very well in the classroom for almost seven years.

The object of this move is to further the facilities overall quality and ultimately achieve the NAEYC Accreditation and the Three Star status. Tammy has demonstrated broad understanding of our policies, procedures and curriculum. She has extensive knowledge of ECERS standards, Handwriting without Tears and Loving Guidance. She has implemented the highest quality standards in her room and maintained those standards for several years.

With her in place to aid the classroom teachers, and the Director, higher quality will be maintained facility wide.

Recycle your Unwanted Items

Do you have items around your house that you don’t need? Children’s Corner may be able to take them off your hands and put them to work. We love to take your paper bags, paper towel rolls, gift wrap rolls, newspapers and old magazines. We could also use your old rubber bands, wallpaper scraps, paper clips, useable sponges, shoe boxes, and food containers.

We need towels, old bed sheets, scrap material, yarn and popsicle sticks. There’s not much that we can’t put to use.

Also, we are looking for any clean clothing items such as t-shirts, pants, sweatshirts, socks, shoes, jackets, underpants, etc. for boys and girls in sizes 2t up to 6. If you have any of these items, we would be glad to put them to good use.

Children’s Corner Supplies

Please remember to send your child’s necessary supplies to school. You will need to check with your child’s teacher about certain items. However, most classes will need the same supplies with one or two exceptions. Each day your child will need the following items:

· A brown bag lunch

· A change of clothing ( just in case)

· A folder for daily communication and completed work

· A rest mat

· A crib sheet

· A blanket

· A backpack
Your child’s teacher can give you a more complete list of needs.
