Meet the Children’s Corner Staff

Most team members are certified in CPR and first aid with the goal of 100% certification. In addition to their certifications and degrees, each Children’s Corner staff member is required to obtain 24 hours of approved training annually. This is 4 hours more than the state of Oklahoma requires. (And, Oklahoma was named the #1 state in the nation for childcare requirements.) Many times the entire staff will attend a training together such as the Becky Bailey Conscious Discipline Conference, or the CPR and First Aid training.

Children’s Corner has at least three Master Teacher’s on the premises. A Master Teacher is someone who meets the state requirements in the  Early Childhood Education field.

 

Our master Teachers are :

 

Mrs. Tammy Richard, who hold her Child Development Associate as well as several additional College hours in ECE,

Mrs. Dana Imel, who holds a Bachelor's Degree in ECE and has several years experience in the public school system,

Mrs. Jodi Burks, who has her Bachelor's Degree in Family and Consumer Sciences.

Mrs. Tina Wolford has a BA in Elementary Ed and MA in school counseling

Mrs. Jen Tice has a CDA in preschoool

Tammy Richard is one of our Master Teachers as well as the Children’s Corner Assistant Director. Tammy is very skilled in creating the appropriate three yr old classroom. She has a gift for managing her center time and making it a wonderful learning time that is reflective of the themes and the other areas of curriculum. Tammy is also skilled at implementing our Conscious Discipline policies. She has been with Children’s Corner since fall of 2003.

 

 Dana Imel was the very first Children’s Corner Assistant Director. She now teaches  pre-k. She holds a BA in Early Education, therefore, meets all the qualifications of a Master teacher. Dana joined us in 1995, but she and her family moved to New York for three years. When she returned to Lawton, she couldn’t resist coming back to Children’s Corner. Dana taught in the public school system for several years prior to moving to Oklahoma. She is a valued member of our team.

Cyndi Martin  is the mother of three former Children’s Corner children. She also has many years experience working at Children’s Corner. Cyndi brings an enormous amount of patience and just the right amount of firmness to the Children’s Corner table. She is concerned with encouraging proper learning skill growth in her children. She is the lead teacher of the two and a half yr olds and threes. Cyndi is a wonderful addition to the team.

 

Jennifer Tice, aka Mrs. Jen has been a preschool teacher for six years. She comes to us via Ft. Sill. She is one of our newest Master Teachers. Her husband works at Reynolds Army Community Hospital. They served in Germany for 8 1/2 years. They are the parents of two beautiful daughters ages 9 and 5. Mrs. Jen subbed for a few weeks before taking the responsibility of the class Mrs. Megan taught. It is Jen’s goal to continue on with the skill development of each of the children in her care.

Corrie Fry first came Children’s Corner as a mom of a Children’s Corner child. Later, she joined First Methodist as a member. Then she came to Children’s Corner as a staff member. Corrie has a simple approach to guiding the children while she encourages appropriate self-help skills. Corrie works as an assistant in the  toddler room with Ms. Cyndi. She has been on the staff since November 2006. We are glad she is a team member!

 

Leah Lewis is our new teacher for the two year old room. She is a Lawton native. Her grandfather is John Elkins, a former Lawton School Superintendent. She and her husband are the proud parents of a son and a daughter ages 4 and 5. Mrs. Leah has several years experience working in this field including a few years working at Head Start. She has begun the work of obtaining her CDA and will continue that work as she works at Children’s Corner.

Jodi Burks is a Master Teacher of a three and four year old group.  She has her Bachelors Degree in Family and Consumer Sciences. Jodi worked as a teacher in El Paso Texas for several years prior to moving to Lawton. Jodi is an articulate teacher whose compassion for her class is evident. She loves each and every child in her care and she can see each individual child’s strength and needs.  Jodi’s positive outlook and eye for detail are highly valued gifts at Children’s Corner.

Melissa Long is the assistant teacher in the two year old group. She is the mother of three children and is also one of the nursery volunteers in her church. Melissa joined our team in spring of 2011. Melissa has a calm, gentle spirit which comes into play quite often when working with twos. She also has a nurturing and warm personality. The children in her care  love her!

 

Tina Wolford is the Master teacher for the Four and Five year old room. She is military spouse with two children a son and a daughter ages 12 and 3. She is originally from Johnstown, Pennsylvania. She graduated from West Virginia University with a degree in Elementary Education. She also has a Master’s Degree in school counseling. She recently moved to Lawton this summer. She is looking forward to exploring the southwest

Krystal Niemczura is a new member of the Children’s Corner staff. She is the mother of two children and has recently moved to the area.  Krystal is an eager learner and is looking forward to a career in early childhood. She is the assistant teacher in the transitional threes group.

Katie Geisler is the assistant teacher for the Pre-K. Katie has been with Children’s Corner for several years as a CC mom. All her children have been Children’s Corner students. Katie is conscientious, fun, energetic, caring and kind. She bring many other talents to share with the children in her care!

 

Mrs. Sharon Jackson also first came to Children’s Corner as a parent. She began working as a staff member in January 1994. By July that same year, she had become Director. Sharon also can be found wearing some unusual outfits. She’s been spied dressed as the Easter Bunny, Barney, an elf and other characters.  She was once in the Lawton Constitution as the Cat In the Hat. All costumes aside, one of her favorite outfits is her Mickey and Minnie Mouse PJ’s.
